Mini bikes were first created by a father in Italy building a miniature motorcycle for his son out of old bits and bobs which he found lying around the place. This mini bike was powered by a lawn mower engine and although very basic was the start of what was to become a huge craze.
This idea caught on and many other people were starting to build up their own little mini motos. This then developed into mini bike racing, with the first mini moto racing company to produce the mini bikes being Polini. These are still very popular today and are well known for their great mini moto builds and quality mini bike engines.
Polini were the first company to build an engine specifically designed for the mini bike, and it was bikes like the original Polini mini motos that were the origin for super bike riders such as Valentino Rossi.
Mini bikes are becoming cheaper and cheaper in this country, this is mainly due to the flood of cheaper imports which can be picked up for next to nothing. These bikes are also very easily picked up off the internet or through shops.
There are many different styles of mini bikes out there for you to buy including your traditional mini motos to your more extreme and robust pit bikes.
There are now mini dirt bikes available, which are similar to pit bikes which have more powerful engines and a more robust frame and design for those riders who want to use their mini bikes off road.
Not only this there are more and more different forms of these vehicles being created but using similar engines in each, such as the mini moto ATVs which are like mini moto quad bikes. These are great for those riders who are less stable on 2 wheels and prefer four.
If racing mini bikes in a league is more the purpose of a rider buying a mini bike then a race certified mini bike will be needed. These are becoming cheaper and are now available with all the gear needed to get started in mini moto racing. Mini motos start at around 3-5 hp for the cheapest ones but can go up to much more powerful
machines.
The most powerful mini moto machines can be tuned up to an amazing 17hp with engines capable of hitting speeds of around 70mph! This is incredibly fast for a machine which is so small with the mini bike land speed record set at a whopping 78mph!
However it is not essential to purchase the most expensive mini motos to get a thrill, similarly a budget Chinese mini bike will still ensure an awesome time and great fun on 2 wheels.
It is due to the popularity and widespread use of mini bikes that this website was created with many categories to browse through, including: mini bike videos, mini dirt bike videos, mini bike news, mini bike parts, mini bikes USA, mini bike choppers, mini moto videos, mini dirt bike videos, mini motos for sale, mini bike news, pocket bike reviews, mini moto racing, mini moto maintenance tips and many more so it will be interesting for anyone with any interest in mini bikes.
Mini motos go also has information about pit bikes, pit bikes are small off road style motorbikes, which are usually more powerful than mini motos.
These bikes often have a manual gearbox and gears and therefore are also slightly harder to ride. These bikes are raced on and off road and are great fun to ride!
Pit bikes start off at 50cc, but you can purcahse larger engined bikes, the majority of them being 125cc with a lot of power. Top speed of a standard pit bike is usually 50+ mph! Therefore these pit bikes are not for the feint hearted.
Pit biking is similar to dirt biking, except dirt bikes can be purchased with a lot larger engines, and also are generally larger in size than pit bikes depending on what size dirt bike you are buying.
They are built for off road racing and high quality dirt bikes, such as Honda dirt bikes and KTM dirt bikes can withstand most off road terrain and off road jumps.
Some of the most popular dirt bike engine sizes are between 250 - 450cc so therefore will be a lot quicker than mini motos and pit bikes. However they are built for a different kind of racing and therefore need to have this extra power and strength.
If you are young and want to get into dirt biking, dirt bikes do start at 50cc automatic bikes, so everyone can get involved. And then as the rider gets older and more experienced the bikes become larger and more powerful. There are many racing leagues set up for dirt bike riders, starting with the junior classes (50-85cc) working up to the endurance cross country races on 900+cc dirt bikes, so there is a league for everyone to race in.
