ATV accident

A man from Shawnigan Lake is now recovering in Cowichan District Hospital after riding his ATV off a cliff at Burnt Bridge.

The voluntary Fire Service were called out when the man was trying to go along a thin part of the track when he tipped his machine and fell over the edge.

Witnesses say the rider had no chance, his fellow rider saying 'I've never seen a quad do that part of the trail and I thought 'I would never try that'.'

The rider was being watched from the bridge by many people when the accident occured including fellow rider Nolan Ellison as well as his brother and friends.

They have said they are unsure wether he was trying to jump off and land the atv or it was an accident.

Officers at the scene said that they get around 5 or 6 calls a year for then same spot, so they have alot of experience in dealing with incidents at this scene.

The man was lifted up the vertical slop by a selection of pulleys attached to a spine board.
