Government have released figures regarding mini motos and the crackdown which was set up by John Reid, Home secretary.

Over 600 of these vehicles were crushed or seized in England and Wales as part of the six week blitz set by government.

Thousands of complaints of these bikes causing a nuisance and being ridden illegally led to this crackdown by government. The crackdown led to over 90 arrests, 742 warnings were given out to members of the public using these vehicles illegally, not only this but 240 parents were spoken to by Police.

These figures are vast for six weeks worth of work which goes to show the scale of the problem which was faced by Government initially.

These figures were released before christmas, still parents persisted to buy them for their children as presents.

Offenders can get points on their licence and also future driving licences of those currently too young to gain a driving licence. This will mean that when these youngsters turn 17 they will find it very hard to find affordable insurance.

The blitz took place in August in over 28 areas of England, this followed almost 4000 complaints from people across England about these mini bikes.

Since September 2004 there have been seven deaths of children under 15 years old due to these dangerous machines. There is now a warning been given from trading standards warning of the dangers of bikes imported from the far east.
