A pensioner from stocksbridge was knocked unconscious and left with a broken nose and two black eyes when he swerved to miss a mini moto rider whilst driving.

Henry Bowden, aged 83 was about to turn onto Winston avenue from Churchill road in Stocksbridge at about 5.15 on January 26th, when the teenager came flying round the corner on an illegal mini moto bike with no lights which caused Mr bowden to swerve and hit two parked vehicles.

Mr Bowden was driving his Suzuki car when he smashed into a car and a van parked along the street. Mr Bowden suffered bruised ribs and a broken nose as well as injuring his knee in this accident.

Residents of nearby houses rushed to help Mr Bowden after he regained consciousness and sounded the horn of his car. He was then taken to Hospital after the emergency services were called.

Mr Bowden described what happened and also said 'It frightened me, I've been driving for 65 years and its the first claim i've had. I still have quite alot of pain in my ribs and nose.'

Police have said that there have been many complaints of these bikes being ridden in this area and it was a problem which needed to be dealt with.
