Dirt bikes are manufactured for off-road riding and can handle rougher terrain, whilst still maintaining high speeds. They have robust tyres  and strong suspensions that enable them to cope with  steep inclines and landing hard against the ground from jumps.

There are bikes with engines in excess of 400cc, but these are reserved solely for advanced riders who can handle the extra power.

Dirt bike racing is incredibly popular with each style of race requiring its own set of skills. Endurance racing through difficult terrain is perhaps the most difficult of all races and can take days to complete the course. Freestyle dirt biking is much less gruelling but riders must have a high level of skill to complete various tricks and jumps to compete with the best.
